Early Morning

ice, hard as stone

- standing – in the North –

bring it South, to home,

the hearth, the heart, the home.

Sons radiate upstairs

- I sit in new light

reading Emily Dickinson –

voices vibrate, doors

slam, open and re-slam.

The house cracks and a clock

ticks second by second.

Ice, hard as stone

- standing – in the North –

bring it South, to home,

the hearth, the heart, the home

and I feel a moment

(relax)

before slow steps

onto stairs;

an engagement

for needs,

hugs

Ice, hard as stone

- standing – in the North –

bring it South, to home,

the hearth, the heart, the home.

  3. There's a kind of incantatory enchantment in this one. The repetitive hypnotic effect is soothing, healing. The hearth, the heart, the home...I love the way this circles around. I love "the Sons radiate upstairs - I sit in new light." Excellent. Keep Going!

  5. This is one of my favorite poems here. Was surprised I hadn't commented on it. Hearth, heart, home. I always enjoy the repetition in this one. In new light, voices vibrate, a clock ticks... I like those rhythms.

  6. I feel the love that radiates warmth up and down staircases and across rooms. Ice, north or south, will always melt here.

  7. I miss the hearth of my home as a child. Cold hands, warm fire the smell... it all came flooding back. Thank you

  9. Very nice. I love the first 'verse', and the 'chorus' is haunting (in a good way) and very well worded. The second 'verse' seems a little shorter, faster paced, and with less visuals. I wasn't expecting that. Lovely poem overall. Keep up the awesome work! :)

  10. Wonderful. The quiet of an early morning and then the lovely son approaching.

  14. Love the repetition and alliteration. And of course I like the home, heart, and hearth---a very heart warming read---despite the cold outside.

  16. Good to read about ice and stone. Here in the northwest it's wet, dark and soft, and a little too warm. Happy holidays. Visiting from Twitter.
